Lock Haven set to host the 2010 NCAA D-II Swimming & Diving National Championships

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University swim team and head coach Andy Waeger have announced that Lock Haven will host the 2010 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.

The championships will run from March 10-13, 2010.

The Lady Eagles and Waeger are very excited about this prestigious honor.

“We are really looking forward to this event and I am really excited for the opportunity,” Waeger said. “I am really looking forward to the challenge.”

“For our program to be associated with hosting the event is a pretty big step for us, as we are looking to move onward and upward in the swimming world.”

The C.T. Brannin Natatorium is top-level facility that has housed many notable past events.

Sam Seiple, C.T. Brannin Natatorium director is also looking forward to this opportunity of hosting another NCAA Championship event.

“Canton City Schools is very excited to have Lock Haven host the 2010 National Championships and it is a great opportunity to bring the top swimmers and divers into our city and show them why we are so proud of our community and the facility,” Seiple said.

“The C.T. Branin Natatorium was recently renovated with a new gymnasium, lighting, locker rooms, starting blocks and an additional 400 seats. We are very fortunate to have this outstanding natatorium in Canton, Ohio and very excited to show it off to the rest of the swimming community,” Seiple added.

The “Canton-Seiple” and Lock Haven connection was formed, thanks in large part to LHU graduate assistant coach Katie Kuntz.

Kuntz, a Clarion University graduate is a Canton native, who swam for Seiple for years.

“I can’t say enough great things about Sam and his helping us through the process thus far. You can really tell he has a passion for the sport and that will really be a huge help for us, as we really get into the work involved with hosting an event of this magnitude,” Waeger said.

Waeger is looking to gain a lot from the hosting of a NCAA Championship experience.

In 2008, LHU had its first ever NCAA Championship qualifier and the feat was repeated this year.

Waeger hopes that trend continues and The Haven continues to find itself among the ranks of the nation’s best swimmers.

“We are looking to continue to compete at this meet for years to come and this is a good step for us,” Waeger said, hoping that the atmosphere of the National Championship gives his athletes some valuable experience.
