LHU Track And Field

LHU wraps up competition at 2009 PSAC Track & Field Championships; both teams place third as Hilton doubles as individual champion
 

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track & field team wrapped up competition today at the 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Track & Field Championships at Millersville University.

Both the Bald and Lady Eagles placed third overall.

Over the course of the three-day championship, The Haven brought home six individual championships and one relay title as the Bald Eagles 4x400 meter relay team was victorious today.

Leading the way today however was Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), who doubled as champion in the steeplechase and 1,500 meter run.

Hilton won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:24.34, which is a NCAA provisional mark. He came back to win the 1,500 with a time of 3:56.38.

Chelsea Morse (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) was her usual self and brought home another conference title in the women’s high jump with a mark of 5-7.75.

Randy Sylvia (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) and Greg Mock (Sicklerville, N.J./Timbercreek) both picked up second-place finishes for The Haven.

Sylvia was second in the discus with a mark of 160-00 and Mock was second at 100 meters with a time of 10.80.

Chris Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) placed third in a deep 400 meter field. His time of 47.48 was a NCAA provisional mark.

Shala Simms (Ardmore, Pa./Upper Darby) turned in a solid outing today, placing fourth in the 800 meter dash with a NCAA provisional time of 2:12.92. She was also fourth in the 1,500 with a provisional mark of 4:33.41.

The Lady Eagles also got a tremendous effort in the discus event, as they went 2-4-5-8. Jakia Gumby (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) led the way with a second-place showing. She recorded a mark of 136-09.

The Bald Eagles 4x400 meter relay team turned in a sizzling 3:13.70 to win the event in NCAA qualifying time.

The Lady Eagles 4x400 meter relay team finished second overall.

Day 2 Recap:

Day 2 was good to The Haven, as with it came three individual titles for Lock Haven.

Freshman Mitch Miller (Morrisville, NY/Morrisville-Eaton) took home the title in the men’s 5K, as he led a dominating performance by the Bald Eagles.

Four different runners including Miller scored for LHU in the event.

Miller won the 5K with a time of 15:10.56 and was followed by Jed Yeatts (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan), Tim Getz (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasbury) and A.J. Johnson (Coventry, R.I./Coventry), who went 4-5-7 helping Lock Haven rack up huge team points in the event.

On the day, the Lady Eagles crowned two champions.

Alaina Leonard (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) took home the win in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 171-00. She also added a fourth-place showing in the shot put.

Christina Ohmott (Hatboro, Pa./Horsham) was Lock Haven’s third champion and second Lady Eagle to claim gold on the day, as she took home the title in the women’s pole vault with a mark of 11-01.75.

Phillip LaBelle (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) took sixth with 5,808 points in the decatholon.

After Day 2, both the Bald and Lady Eagles are sitting second in the team title race.

After Day 1, LHU was sitting in third place in the team races on the both the men’s and women’s side.

Day 1 Recap:

Freshman sensation Lindsey Lambert (Howell, N.J./Howell) led the way with a third-place finish in the women’s 10K. Her time of 36:15.69 was a NCAA provisional mark.

The Bald Eagles also got a tremendous effort in the 10K, as the trio of A.J. Johnson (Coventry, R.I./Coventry), Tim Getz (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasbury) and Jed Yeatts (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) went 5-6-7 to rack up nine team points for The Haven men.

Johnson was fifth (31:48.16), Getz sixth (31:48.56) and Yeatts was seventh (31:58.85).
