LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s cross country teams both opened their 2007 campaigns today by hosting the inaugural Dolan Duals while taking on Penn State University.
The meet was named in honor Jim Dolan, former LHU professor and cross country coach, who is one of the Haven’s biggest track and field and cross country supporters. As part of the special dual-meet to kick off the season Dolan was the honorary starter.
PSU took home the win both races with Penn State’s women’s squad winning 15-50 and the men’s team beating LHU by the same 15-50 score.
On the men’s side sophomore Brandon Pomertantz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) was the Bald Eagles top finisher in 10th place after running the 6K course in 18:55.93.
Right behind Pomertantz was rookie Tim Getz (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) who looked very solid in his crimson and white debut finishing 11th with a time of 18:57.01.
The Bald Eagles had a nice pack come in earning spots 14-18, as the meet provided a solid start to their 2007 season, where they hope to successfully defend their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and NCAA Division II East Region titles.
On the women’s side 2006 All-PSAC performer Lindsey Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shiellany) was the Lady Eagles top finisher. The sophomore finished the 4K course in 15:38.43, which was good enough for 17th.
Much like in the men’s race another freshman was right on her heels as rookie Erika Meling (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) finished 18th in 15:41.47.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. when the travel to Kutztown University for the Maroon and Gold Invitation.
