FARMVILLE, Va. – Sophomore Kristi Shepps (Willow Street, Pa./Penn Manor) of the Lock Haven University field hockey team has been named Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week for her recent efforts on the field.
The Lady Eagles started the season 2-0, thanks in large part to some late-game heroics in both contests.
Sparking that last minute drama in both games was Shepps, who led the team over the two-game span with five points.
In the season opener on Saturday against Georgetown, Shepps scored the game-winning goal with less than four minutes to play. LHU downed Georgetown 4-3.
Yesterday Lock Haven topped host-Longwood 2-1 in another thriller.
Shepps was once again a huge part of The Haven’s heroics.
With just a little over two minutes to play in regulation the sophomore knocked home a rebound to level the score at 1-1.
She wasn’t done there and with less than two minutes left in the game she was on a breakaway where she played a perfect pass to Suzann Hobart (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land). Hobart, a senior left no doubt and buried the ball in the back of the cage with only 1:41 left to play, giving LHU its second straight win.
This is the first such honor for Shepps and Lock Haven this season.
Shepps and her Lady Eagle teammates return to action on Friday, September 4 at 6 p.m. when they travel the short distance to take on rival and 11th ranked Penn State.
