LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock University men’s soccer team (0-1-1, 0-1 PSAC West) dropped a hard-fought battle to visiting Slippery Rock University (2-1, 1-0 PSAC) 1-0 today at Hubert Jack Stadium.
It was a thrilling opener to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play for the two long-time rivals, as both teams battled hard throughout a physical 90 minutes.
The only goal of the match came in the 30th minute as SRU’s Jeremy Deighton beat Lock Haven goalie Chris Custer (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley).
Custer was solid throughout and was credited with two stops in the game, both of which were sensational ones that kept the Bald Eagles in the game.
Lock Haven had its chances including a late one by freshman Kyle Fuerst (Athens, Pa./Dowling College).
LHU head coach Doug Moore got a number of solid and notable performances form a cast of players, but LHU just could find the back of the net down the stretch despite controlling the flow the match for long stretches.
The Bald Eagles return to action on Sunday, September 6 at 3 p.m. when they travel to Mercyhurst for PSAC West action.
