Cross Country opens 2009 season at Dolan Duals

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their 2009 season this evening at their own Dolan Duals.

The Dolan Duals has become a special tradition that began in 2007 and is an annual meet between LHU and Penn State University. The meet is named in honor Jim Dolan, former LHU professor and cross country coach, who is one of The Haven’s biggest track and field and cross country supporters.

As part of the special dual-meet to kick off the season, Dolan was the honorary starter.

The Bald Eagles topped PSU on the men’s side in a solid season opening race for both teams.

The Penn State women’s squad topped the Lady Eagles.

Junior Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), who is looking for a big things on the course this year used a strong kick to lead Lock Haven to the win. Hilton was second overall and the first collegiate runner in the race after an unattached-runner took home top honors.

Hilton covered the 6K course in 18:11.90.

The Bald Eagles also went 5-6-7 to cap off the solid season-opening outing.

The Lady Eagles were paced by the 8-9 finish of sophomore Lindsey Lambert (Howell, N.J./Howell) and freshman Lindsay Topper (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin). The pair ran the 4K course in 15:01.60 and 15:36.50, respectively.

Both the LHU men’s and women’s teams will be back in action on Saturday, September 12 at 10 a.m. when they host the LHU Invitational.
