Volleyball takes two at Dowling Tournament; Lady Eagles down Bentley and St. Mary’s
 

OAKDALE, N.Y. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (4-2) picked up two wins today as the Lady Eagles wrapped up competition at Dowling Hilton Garden Inn-vitational.

Lock Haven downed Bentley College 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 22-25 & 25-13) before cruising past St. Mary’s University 3-0 (28-16, 25-22 & 25-9).

LHU head coach Tom Justice was very pleased with team’s performances today, particularly the offense, which was on fire.

Lock Haven’s offense recorded a sizzling .720 team kill-percentage in the fourth game against Bentley to cap off the day’s opening win. The Lady Eagles had 19 kills and just one error in 25 total attempts in that fourth game to put Bentley away.

Leading the way individually was rookie Xuan Gao (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School), who had a team-high 18 kills. She hit .571, while adding three blocks and was practically unstoppable according to Justice.

Another freshman, Grace Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) was also solid and hit .588 with 12 kills.

Sophomore Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) hit .374 with 12 kills and a team-high four aces.

Fabiana Gomez (Montevideo, Uruguay/Consejo de E.S.) led LHU with 37 assists.

Christina Laury (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) turned in a team-high 26 digs.

Lock Haven’s offense was at in again in the day’s second match as the Lady Eagles soared past St. Mary’s 3-0.

Gribler had another strong match with 14 kills. She hit .419 to keep Lock Haven’s explosive attack rolling.

Xuan added eight kills.

Kim Windstein (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) led LHU with four solo blocks and four block assists.

Laury onve again led Lock Haven in digs with 16, while Gomez added 11.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Friday, September 10 when they play host to the LHU Classic Tournament. LHU’s first match is Friday at 4:30 against Molloy in Thomas Fieldhouse.
