LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (3-3) fell to visiting Kent State (3-4) 2-0 today on Charlotte E. Smith Field.
Despite outshooting Kent State 12-9, the Lady Eagles couldn’t find a goal over the 70 minute match.
LHU found itself down 2-0 at halftime, but created some very good chances in the second half of play, forcing Kent State goalkeeper Kristin Williders to make some sensational stops.
Kent went up 1-0 in the 10th minute after Rachel Miller scored off a penalty corner. The Flash made it 2-0 in the 17th minute and that would be the contest’s only tallies on the scoreboard.
Amy Hordendorf (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) had a outstanding chance to make it 2-1 after a perfect crossing pass from Suzann Hobart (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land), but Hordendorf was denied by Williders less five minutes into the second half.
Lock Haven goalkeeper Erin Terreson (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) made five saves in the contest.
Kent State held a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Friday, September 18 at 4 p.m. when they travel to Colgate.
