CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (2-3-1, 1-3 PSAC West) was downed 3-2 by host California (Pa.) University (4-3, 1-3 PSAC West) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West overtime thriller today.
It was another physical match between the two rivals and it looked as if Lock Haven had the upper hand after a very strong opening 45 minutes of play.
The Bald Eagles took the 2-1 lead into halftime after goals by Greg Shertzer (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and Zach Miller (Girard, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep).
Shertzer put LHU up 1-0 in the 17th minute off an assist from Kevin Wolfe (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township).
The Vulcans leveled the score at 1-1, before Lock Haven regained the lead just before halftime.
Miller scored off an assist from Shertzer in the 44th minute.
Cal’s Chris Moehler tied the game in the 72nd minute and he was at it again just 6:16 into the first overtime, as he found the game-winner for California.
Lock Haven goalkeeper Chris Custer (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) made four stops in the loss.
The Bald Eagles return to action on Friday, September 18 at 2 p.m. when they play host to Mercy College.
