LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – A two-goal game by junior striker Arielle Gordon (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) proved to be the difference, as the Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (2-5, 1-5 PSAC West) downed visiting Edinboro University (3-3-2, 2-2-1 PSAC West) 2-1 today in conference action.
LHU head coach Heather Davis got a solid effort from everyone in the lineup and the Lady Eagles hard work paid off with the important home-win.
Gordon scored the first of her two goals just 1:02 into the match after she tucked home a through ball that was played in by Caitlyn Slattery (Williamsport, Pa./UMBC).
Edinboro wouldn’t go away easy and tied the game at 1-1 early in the second half.
In the 60th minute Gordon was at it again and scored the eventual game-winner after the Lady Eagles used some sensational passing to set up the goal.
Slattery led a very solid defensive effort for The Haven today.
Alissa Gamelier (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) was very effective in the midfield for LHU and helped lead the Lady Eagles to the win that snapped a five-game losing skid.
LHU goalkeeper Kim Bentley (Springdale, Pa./Springdale) played all 90 minutes in net and made seven saves on the way to the win.
Lock Haven is back in action on Tuesday, September 22 at Clarion (6:30 p.m.).
