Volleyball’s offensive punch too much to handle; Lady Eagles down SRU & IUP
 

INDIANA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (10-4) went 2-0 today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West Crossover action at Indiana (Pa.) University.

In the day’s opening match, Lock Haven cruised past Slippery Rock 3-0 (25-17, 25-23 & 25-19).

In Lock Haven’s second match of the day, The Haven’s offense came alive and the Lady Eagles were just too much for IUP to handle. LHU won 3-0 (25-13, 25-20 & 25-13).

In the win over SRU, Xuan Gao (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School) led LHU offensively with a 12-kill effort. Xuan hit a sensational .454.

Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) recorded nine kills to help lead The Haven.

Christie Naumann (Charters Towers, Australia/Gladstone) turned in an all-around solid outing and tallied five kills (.416 hitting-percentage) and nine digs.

Christina Laury (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Fabiana Gomez (Montevideo, Uruguay/Consejo de E.S.) led LHU in digs with 18 and 12, respectively.

Kim Windstein (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) led LHU with four block assists.

Lock Haven’s attack was sizzling against IUP, particularly in sets one and three, where LHU hit .500 and .502, respectively.

As a team, Lock Haven had 17 kills in game one and only one error. The Lady Eagles were on fire again in game three and only made two errors.

Xuan hit a sizzling .631 with no errors and 12 total kills to lead LHU. She also had 18 digs.

Gribler added 11 kills.

Gomez was her usual self and led LHU with 35 assists. She also added 18 digs.

Naumman had three aces off her trademark powerful jump-serve.

Defensively, four different players recorded blocks for LHU head coach Tom Justice.

Justice was incredibly pleased with his team’s overall performance today especially that of the Lady Eagles offense.

Lock Haven is back in action on Friday night (September 25) at 7 p.m. when the Lady Eagles play host to West Chester in PSAC East action.
