LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Junior Casey Hughes (Schwenksville, Pa./Souderton) drove home two goals to help lift the Lock Haven University field hockey team (7-3) past Saint Joseph’s University.
Hughes’s first goal came late in the first half giving the Lady Eagles the 1-0 advantage at the half.
An offensive surge late in the second half led Lock Haven to their seventh win on the season.
Amy Hordendorf (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) knocked in a goal to give LHU the 2-0 lead. Two minutes later Hughes struck again for her second goal on the afternoon.
Lock Haven’s potent offense was a key in their tough fought victory. The Lady Eagles outshot Saint Joseph’s 18-5 and held a 14-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Saint Joseph’s Ellen Rowe scored the Hawks lone goal in the 69th minute of play.
The Lady Eagles are back in action Friday, October 2 at 5 p.m. when they host conference opponent Quinnipiac University.
