BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action today the 2009 Brooks-Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University.
The Lady Eagles took seventh overall in the College Women’s Brown Race and the No. 17 Bald Eagles finished 26th overall in the College Men’s Gold Race.
The Haven women were led by sophomore Lindsey Lambert (Howell, N.J./Howell), who took 13th in a field of 338 total runners.
Lambert covered the 6K course in 22:02.
Freshman Lindsay Topper (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) continued her solid running and finished in 20th pace with a time of 22:29.
Theresa Gould (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Hersham), Melinda Liptak (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown/Marywood Univ.) and Courtney Whitmoyer (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) rounded out LHU’s top five athletes.
Gould finished 46th (22:51), while Liptak was 90th (23:28) and Whitmoyer took 122nd with a time of 23:48.
The Haven men took 26th overall in the men’s gold race and leading the way was junior Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township).
Hilton was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s (PSAC) top-finisher with a time of 24:28.
Senior Brandon Pomerantz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) was Lock Haven’s second man and he took 87th overall. Pomerantz covered the 8K course in 24:51.
Nathan Zondlo (Avoca, Pa./Pittston Area), A.J. Johnson (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) and Mitch Miller (Morrisville, N.Y./Morrisville-Eaton) rounded out the Bald Eagles top-five finishers.
Zondlo was 139th overall in the 386-runner field with a time of 25:14. Johnston finished with a time of 25:36 and Miller clocked 25:38.
Both teams are back in action on Friday, October 16 when they travel to Penn State University for the Penn State National Invitational. The gun goes off at 10 a.m. at PSU.
