LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Several members of the Lock Haven University wrestling team kicked off their 2009-10 season at the recent Buffalo Open.

Both Gabe Murtoff (Boiling Springs, Pa/Boiler Springs) and Aaron Ernest (Selinsgrove, Pa/Selinsgrove) placed during the tournament.



Murtoff took fifth overall at 285 after a very respectful 3-2 day. He was defeated by Maryland’s Pat Gilmore in the semifinals by a score of 11-5.

Ernest also took fifth overall after a solid 5-2 record on the day.

Jake Bachman (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain), Brandon Pfahler (Alum Bank, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) Tyrus Nikoli (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Kris Gratalo (Hughestown, Pa./Pittston Area) also competed at the Buffalo Open while turning in solid outings.

All of The Haven’s grapplers wrestled unattached and several Bald Eagles will head west to Clarion University on Saturday, November 7 at the Clarion Open.

LHU officially kicks off the 2009-10 season on Sunday, Nov. 15 at the Brute Binghamton Open in Binghamton, N.Y.
