Lady Eagles will play for 4th straight NEC Title, down Quinnipiac 2-1 in NEC Semifinal

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (17-4) downed Quinnipiac (6-12) 2-1 today in Northeast Conference (NEC) Semifinal action, earning a spot in tomorrow’s (Saturday, November 7) NEC Championship match.

The two-seeded Lady Eagles will be looking for their fourth straight NEC Tournament title and will take on Monmouth, the tournaments No. 4 seed, who upset top-seeded Rider 2-1 in overtime in today’s first semifinal match.

The Lady Eagles went up 1-0 today in their semifinal match just 10:10 in, after Amy Hordendorf (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights), the reigning NEC Offensive Player of the Year converted a penalty stroke.

Lock Haven made it 2-0 in the 21st minute after Suzanna Hobart (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) scored off a pass from Megan Albert (Liverpool, Pa./Greenwood).

LHU took the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Quinnipiac cut into the Lock Haven lead in the 59th minute, when the Bobcats made it 2-1 on a Kristin Engelke goal, but QU’s rally would be short lived, as The Haven held on for the important semifinal-win.

Lady Eagle goalkeeper Erin Terreeson (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) made three saves in the win.

LHU held a 16-10 advantage in shots.

The win helps run Lock Haven’s all-time NEC record to 44-3.

The Lady Eagles return to action tomorrow in the NEC Championship match. Game time is set for noon. The winner of tomorrow’s match will travel to the Patriot League Champion on Tuesday, November 10 for the NCAA play-in match.
