MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (4-5-1) earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Millersville University (0-5-2) on the road tonight as the Lady Eagles picked up their second straight victory.
Rookie Jessie Cox (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) was the difference as she netted the first goal her young Lady Eagle career lifting the Haven.
Cox netted the match’s only goal in the 54th minute of play when she found a ball that was deflected off a Millersville defender and ripped a shot near-post from 25 yards out that beat the MU keeper.
Senior Emily Wagner (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) made six saves in net and is now just 24 away from becoming LHU’s all-time career save leader.
The Lady Eagles turned in a solid performance all around as they were able to shutout the host Marauders.
“We played well and really stepped it up in the second half,” said LHU head coach Heather Davis. “We played tough and scrappy and won a hard-fought battle.”
The Lady Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 22 at noon when they travel to East Stroudsburg University.
