BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Lock Haven University’s women’s basketball squad (4-5, 0-0 PSAC West) made it two in a row as they traveled to Bloomsburg and took away the first half of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader affair at Nelson Fieldhouse by a 68-54 score.
The Lady Eagles trailed 10-4 early as Bloomsburg played solid defense in the games first nearly nine minutes to take the Lady Eagle offense out of the game, but that was as big as the Lady Husky lead would be all evening.
From that moment until the 3:37 mark a 17-6 run by the Lady Eagles would give LHU a lead that they would never again relinquish.
Both teams would battle back and forth, but it would be The Haven taking a 28-21 lead into the locker room break.
Guard Malika Miller (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) led all scorers in the first half as she knocked down nine points for the Lady Eagles. Fellow guard Lauren Kelshaw (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) also helped the LHU cause by chipping in seven points of her own in the opening stanza.
Forward Kristen Kudrick (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) would get LHU started off on the right foot as she knocked down two of her game high 18 points to give LHU the first score of the second half extending The Haven’s advantage to 30-21.
Bloomsburg wouldn’t go away though as they chipped the Lady Eagle lead to as small as two points with 11:57 to play in the contest, but LHU continued to apply the pressure, and would pull away in the end to come home with a 68-54 victory.
LHU controlled the ball well as they only gave it up 13 times while forcing 27 Bloom turnovers which turned into 27 Lady Eagle points.
Kudrick’s 18 points led all scorers on the evening, while Kelshaw’s 17 also helped the LHU cause in a large way.
Also contributing on all fronts was Michelle Mitchell (Scranton, Pa./Lackawanna C.C.) who threw in a near triple-double performance as she netted 13 points, pulled in nine rebounds and also picked up seven steals.
Leading the way for Bloomsburg was Lauren Healy who knocked down 16 for the home team.
LHU will take an extended break for the Christmas holiday, but will be back in action before the end of 2007 as they travel to Mercyhurst College on Saturday, December 30 in out of conference action. The final game of 2007 is scheduled to tip at 2:00 p.m.
