Lady Eagles fall at home to Millersville 70-56

Kristen Kudrick's 25 points weren't enough as LHU fell in cross conference action to Millersville 70-56

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lady Eagles of Lock Haven University (4-7, 0-0 PSAC Wast) fell in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action, as the visiting Millersville Marauders (9-2, 0-0 PSAC East) left Thomas Fieldhouse with a 70-56 victory.

Lock Haven kept things close early as just under five minutes into the contest the game was knotted up at nine a piece.

Michelle Mitchell’s (Scranton, PA/Lackawanna C.C.) jumper with 15:05 to go in the opening frame capped off a 5-2 spurt by The Haven which gave them a 14-11 lead.

The Marauders continued to a apply the pressure and would eventually take the lead back from LHU three and a half minutes later off a Jemika Rehm jumper.

LHU’s stingy defense would help them take the lead back again as with 8:08 to play in the frame Kristen Kudrick (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) would hit a pair of free throws to give The Haven a 20-19 advantage.

But it would be Millersville controlling the rest of the first half as they would take a 35-31 lead into the locker room.

Kudrick’s 15 points led all scorers through the opening half as she scored nearly half of LHU’s 31 points.

As both teams came out of the half time intermission, the Lady Eagles kept it close as through the first five minutes of the second period they were within two, three times.

With just under 15 minutes to play Millersville took a 41-37 lead off a Aiesha Bellamy jumper and that was as close as LHU would get as they would eventually fall by a 70-56 score to the visiting Marauders.

LHU was led by Kudrick’s game high 25 point effort, 15 of which came in the first half. She also led the way with six rebounds.

Lauren Kelshaw (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) also chipped in ten points for the Lady Eagle cause.

In a turnover plagued affair, LHU gave the ball to Millersville 26 times which turned into 15 Marauder points.

Millersville’s bench was the story of the game as they outscored LHU’s sideline by a 34-12 margin.

Millersville was led on the afternoon by Gladine St. Julien’s 17 point effort.

LHU is back in action tomorrow Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008 as they play part in a men’s/women’s double dip for the second day in a row. The Haven plays host to the Rams of West Chester with tip time slated for 1 p.m. at Thomas Fieldhouse.
