LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (5-11, 0-2 PSAC West) fell to Slippery Rock University (7-10, 1-1 PSAC West) 69-65 today at home in Thomas Fieldhouse.
The contest marked the first home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West game of the year for the Lady Eagles and showed as the clash had a playoff atmosphere about it.
Despite the loss, LHU’s leading scorer Lauren Kelshaw (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) had another strong afternoon with a game-high 19 points. The junior-guard scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half of play, as she did everything she could to fuel the offense.
Kelshaw also had a game-high six assists.
Sophomore Casi Conelan (Fairfax,Va./Goldey-Beacom College) had a strong outing for the Lady Eagles as she netted 16 points to go along with a team-high six boards.
Sophomore Kristin Kudrick (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) wasn’t far off the pace lending a helping hand with a 10-point effort.
LHU took the early lead, but the first half was a back-and-fourth affair with the Lady Eagles only taking a one-point lead into the break.
Slippery Rock quickly took the lead in the second and led by as many as eight points just five minutes into the second half. With just over 11 minutes play in the contest LHU would regain the lead after a Kelshaw layup put the Haven up one, leading 48-48.
With just under 10 minutes to go, SRU took the lead for good.
The Lady Eagles return to PSAC West action on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. on the road at Clarion University.
