LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Junior Lauren Kelshaw (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) hit a jumper with just 22 second left in the game lifting the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (6-13, 1-4 PSAC West) over Edinboro University 65-64 (11-8, 1-4 PSAC West) at home today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
The win was the first division win of the season for the Lady Eagles and snapped a five-game loosing skid for the Haven as their last win came back on Dec. 2, 2007.
Kelshaw scored a team-high 20 points with 14 of them coming in the second half.
Down 5-4, just 2:30 into the contest Marissa Elliot (Hagerstown, Md./Hagerstown C.C.) scored putting Lock Haven into the lead, a lead they would hang on to until the 6:42 mark of the first half.
The first half ended after the last six plus minutes proved to be a back-and-fourth affair.
Trailing by two at the break, 33-31, the Lady Eagles quickly tied the game after Elliot knocked down a jumper less than 30 seconds into the second.
Edinboro held the lead much of the second half and led by as many as seven.
LHU was down 64-60 with 2:15 to play when Kelshaw decided to take over. With 1:25 to go, she nailed a three-pointer to make it one-point ballgame.
With just over a minute left in regulation Kelshaw made a steal getting the ball back in Lock Haven’s hands.
It was Kelshaw’s steal that set up their last possession of the game, where she was able free and pull up, draining the game-winner with only 22 second to play.
Kelshaw got plenty of help as eight other Lady Eagles scored including sophomore-forward Kristin Kudrick (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) who netted 14 points to go along with five rebounds.
Elliot and Michelle Mitchell (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) both finished with eight points apiece. Mitchell also grabbed five boards.
Junior Casi Donelan (Fairfax, Va./Goldey-Beacom College) chipped in with seven points and a team-high six rebounds.
The Lady Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. when they play host to Indiana (Pa.) University in PSAC West action.
