LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Billy Arre (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) moved into fifth place on the all-time scoring list as he scored 19 points on the evening but it wasn’t enough as visiting Indiana University (PA) (12-9, 4-2 PSAC West) knocked off Lock Haven University (1-19, 1-5 PSAC West) 70-57 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West division action.
LHU kept things close throughout the first half as they twice in the first frame with the first lead takeover coming with 12:11 to play in the stanza as hometown favorite Eli Hanna (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) knocked down his lone triple on the evening to give The Haven a 13-11 advantage.
IUP would quickly answer with a triple of there own to take the lead right back on their ensuing possession at a 14-13 margin.
Arre would then score the games next six points as LHU would take the lead back off his two triples with 7:11 to go in half number one.
The Haven would lead until 4:47 to go in the first half when a Gerald Brooks jumper would give the Crimson Hawks the lead at 26-24.
IUP would go on a 9-2 run to close out the half as they took a 35-26 lead into the intermission.
Out of the intermission both teams would battle back and forth as IUP saw double digit leads throughout the majority of the frame and led by a dozen with nine and half minutes to play as they held a 56-44 advantage.
LHU wasn’t ready to lay down for the visitors though as over the course of the next nearly four minutes The Haven would go on a 6-0 burst to cut the IUP lead in half to a 56-50 mark.
Six points was as close as LHU would get as they ran out of gas on their comeback bid as IUP would close the game out on a 14-7 run to travel back I-80 with a 70-57 victory.
Arre’s 19 points led the way for the Bald Eagles on the evening as he moved into sole possession of fifth place on the all-time LHU scoring list, passing Doug Legette as Arre now has 1507 points.
Arre, a preseason honorable mention All-American, is the first LHU men’s player to cross the 1500 point plateau since career leader Mike Shue eclipsed the feat in 1997.
Arre didn’t work alone as he got plenty of help from Kelvin McLean (Newport News, Va./Heritage) as he threw in 13 points while also pulling down a team high six boards.
IUP was led on the evening by Brooks, who recorded the double double, scoring 19 points and hauling in a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Bald Eagles are next back in action as they are on the road and look to avenge an earlier season loss to Slippery Rock University on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 3 p.m.
