Kudrick’s double-double, clutch shooting late lifts Lady Eagles over SRU on the road

Kristin Kudrick had a huge double-double today and proved the biggest different for the Lady Eagles who got clutch shooting down the stretch to down SRU.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Sophomore-forward Kristin Kudrick (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) was huge, picking up the double-double in leading the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (7-14, 2-5 PSAC West) past Slippery Rock University (7-14, 1-5 PSAC West) 62-59 on the road today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division action.

Kudrick was the difference in the Lady Eagles big division win on the road. She scored 22 points to go along with 10 rebounds marking the first time this season a Lady Eagle player has recorded a double-double. Her 22 points and 10 boards were both game highs while she also recorded a game-high six steals.

Junior-guard Lauren Kelshaw (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) continued her hot hand, netting 16 points to help pace the Haven. She also grabbed six rebounds.

Elizabeth Finneran (Oakville, Conn./Watertown) and Malika Miller (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) both scored eight points as LHU got solid offensive contributions from up and down the bench. Finneran also pulled in five rebounds.

Aiesha Smith (Philadelphia/Paul Robeson) also came up big for Lock Haven this afternoon as the rookie added six points and six rebounds.

The game was tied 26-26 at halftime, but clutch shooting down the final stretch of the game proved to be the difference for the Haven.

Slippery Rock led 58-56 with 1:11 on the game clock, but that quickly change after Smith nailed a jumper to even things at 58 apiece.

With just 24 seconds left Kelshaw hit a clutch-jumper to put the Haven on top 60-58.

With the Haven up 60-59 Kelshaw continued her clutch shooting from the charity stripe and knocked down two freebies giving the Lady Eagles the three-point advantage with just nine seconds left on the clock as they held onto the all-important division win on the road.

The Lady Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. when they play host to Shippensburg University in PSAC West action. Wednesday night also marks Think Pink Day in Thomas Fieldhouse as the LHU women’s basketball team is doing their part in raising breast cancer awareness.
