LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University swim team is set to dive into the competition at the 33rd annual Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women’s Swimming Championships which start tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Four Lady Eagles qualified for individual events and three others will travel to the championships to take part on Haven relay teams.
Leading the way for the Haven is freshman Amanda Terray (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley), who has the potential to be the Haven’s top scorer as she aims to compete for individual titles.
She is set to take part in the 100 and 200 backstroke events as well as the 50 freestyle.
She is heading into the 100 backstroke ranked No. 7 in the nation in all of Division II and her 57.62 is second best in the PSAC this season. Earlier this season Terray became the first Lady Eagle in school history to qualify for the NCAA Division II Swimming National Championships.
“She as the potential to do quite well,” said LHU head coach Andy Waeger. “Her training has gone well as of late and we’ll see what she can do.”
Also competing individually for the Haven is senior Kelly Grieneisen (Pittsburgh/Plum), who will swim the 200, 500 and 1000 freestyle events.
“Kelly will be looking for one last great swim as well as improve on her times and have fun,” said Waeger of his senior captain who looks to close out her career with a high note.
Junior Stephanie Kudrick (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport) is competing in the 50 freestyle and the 200 IM.
“She’s a gutsy competitor who is a racer,” said Waeger who looks for Kudrick to turn some heads at the championships.
Sophomore Amanda Palmer (Exton, Pa./Downington East) is set to race in the 200 and 400 IM as well as the 200 butterfly.
“Palmer has great potential to improve the most as these championships,” says Waeger who commented on her strong training leading up to the meet.
Competing for Lock Haven at the PSAC championships as part of it’s three relay teams will be sophomores Amanda Lightcap (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) and Shannon Wilbur (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) along with freshman Caroline Sweeney (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan).
LHU finished ninth at the PSAC championships last year and second among women’s only programs and they look to maintain one of the top spots among women’s only programs in the conference this year.
