Lady Eagles drop last home game of 2007-08 season, fall 83-76 to Clarion

Senior Michelle Mitchell came up big in her last home game in Thomas Fieldhouse as she led the Lady Eagles with an 18-point night.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (7-17, 2-8 PSAC West) lost it’s last home game of the season tonight as the Lady Eagles fell to Clarion University (17-7, 7-3 PSAC West) 83-76 in Thomas Fieldhouse.

Tonight’s game marked the last one ever in crimson and white at home for two Lady Eagles.

Seniors Jasmin May (East Orange, N.J./University of Bridgeport) and Michelle Mitchell (Scranton, Pa./Lackawanna C.C.) were both honored for their contributions to the program.

Mitchell took full advantage of her last night playing in Thomas Fieldhouse and posted a team-high 18 points to pace the Lady Eagles who were in it until late.

Despite trailing by 13 at the break and as many as 11 in the first four minutes of the second half, Lock Haven clawed back.

Trailing by just one point, Mitchell made a layout after a Lauren Kelshaw (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) steal putting LHU up 60-59 with 9:11 to play.

Clarion quickly regained the lead, but it was short lived as the Lady Eagles held a two-point advantage with just over six minutes to go in the contest. Clarion would however regain the lead in the final minutes of the game as they escaped with the important Western Division win.

Kelshaw flirted with the rare triple-double as she scored 16 points, recorded eight steals and pulled in seven rebounds.

The Haven got a solid night shooting as the Lady Eagles shot 46.2 percent from the field and saw a total of four players in double figures.

Also hitting in double figures was sophomore-forward Kristin Kudrick (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) and junior Marisa Elliot (Hanover, Pa./Hagerstown C.C.) who both scored 13 points.

Kudrick also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds on the night.

The Lady Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 23 when they travel to Edinboro University in PSCA West action. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
