Baseball splits with S.W. Minnesota St.

Josh Rote pitched a gem in game one of Bald Eagles doubleheader today with S.W. Minnesota St.

FT MYERS, Fla. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (6-9) split a doubleheader today with Southwest Minnesota State University in the Sunshine State.

The Bald Eagles took game one of the doubleheader and extended their recent win streak to three games before dropping game two of the day.

Once again the Haven produced the offense they needed and won 8-1 in the first game.

Their eight runs came off six hits and the Bald Eagles offense was backed up a stellar pitching.

Sophomore Josh Rote (McElhattan, Pa./Central Mountian) pitched a gem for the Bald Eagles going the complete game and allowing just four hits.

He struck out one and gave up zero walks as he had it going on today.

Catcher Nick Harner (Dauphin, Pa./Chowan College) continued to produce at the plate as the junior-transfer went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Teddy Stake (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) hit a homerun to help the Haven offense and

Zach Schuler (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Spring Grove) was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Game two was an exact opposite of sorts as the Haven was shutout 8-0.

Andrew Simonik (Jermyn/Lakeland) got the start and worked 2-1/3 innings recording one strikeout, but giving up seven runs on 10 hits.

Tyler Rumsey (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) saw action in the next 3-1/3 innings and struck out three. He allowed two walks and gave up one run on two hits.

Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) picked up the Haven’s only two hits in game two.

The Bald Eagles are back in action tomorrow at 9 a.m. when they take on this same S.W. Minnesota State in their final contest at the 16th annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
