Bald Eagles drop final game in the Sunshine state

Pat Young was strong through six innings today for the Bald Eagles.

FT MYERS, Fla. – Playing their final game at the 16th annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic the Lock Haven University baseball team (6-10) fell to Southwest Minnesota State University 9-7 in a nine-inning outing.

Lock Haven’s seven runs came off nine hits and Minnesota used nine hits to rack up their nine runs.

The Bald Eagles led 5-2 heading into the bottom half of the seventh inning.

Up until that point the Haven was getting solid pitching from senior Pat Young (Allensville, Pa./Indian Valley), who put fourth a very strong six-inning outing.

In workmanlike fashion he gave up just two runs and allowed only five hits. He struck out four and only walked three.

In the bottom of the seventh Bobby Fiala (Pembroke, Fla./Everglades) came in and recorded no outs while allowing five runs.

Rookie Dan Knapp (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) was credited for the final two innings of action and pitched well for the Haven. He struck out three and allowed zero walks. He gave up two runs on two hits.

Offensively the Bald Eagles had three players record multiple hits games.

Zach Schuler (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Spring Grove) was 3-for-5 and drove in three runs.

Tim Bremen (Effort, Pa./Sussex County C.C.) went 2-for-4 with a double and a homerun and Matt McCamley (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.

Today’s game wrapped up the Bald Eagles 2008 stint in Florida and they’re back in action on Friday, March 21 at noon when they play host to Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
