MANKATO, Minn. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up competition today at the 2008 NCAA Division II National Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Minnesota State University-Mankato.
Leading the way for the Haven was once again junior Chelsea Morse (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Campbell-Savona), who tied for second overall in the high jump, earning All-American status for her efforts.
Her mark today was 5-7.
Morse was also second at the National Championships outdoor last year in 2007.
“Morse’s performance today proved her outdoor finish last year was not a fluke,” said LHU co-head track and field coach Aaron Russell. “She now has three more shots at national title and will be in contention every time.”
Morse’s All-American status wraps up a sensational season for the Beaver Dams, N.Y. native and Russell couldn’t be happier.
She’s overcome a lot of adversity this week and always steps up when it counts said Russell.
Shala Simms (Ardmore, Pa./Upper Darby) capped off a solid indoor season by finishing 17th in the women’s 800 meter run. She ran 2:20.41.
Russell noted that this trip to NCAA’s gives Simms valuable experience for the future.
Paul Martin (Pickering, Ontarion/Pine Ridge Secondary) finished 11th in the 60M hurdles.
Despite missing the finals his mark of 8.18 broke his own school record in the event.
Russell was pleased with Martin’s effort, but knows not making it to the finals will make him hungry in the spring.
Lock Haven is back in action on Saturday, March 22 when they head outside for the first time keeping off the Outdoor season at the Lynchburg Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
