Three former LHU grapplers to take part in Olympic Trials
 

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Three former wrestlers from Lock Haven have been selected to compete at the United States Olympic Team Trials which take place from June 12-15 in Las Vegas.

Two females and a male were selected to the team as Jenny Wong, 2004 Athens Summer Games Silver Medalist Sara McMann and ninth place finisher in the 2000 Sydney Games and two-time NCAA Champion Cary Kolat were chosen to the select list of invitees.

Wong was a competitor in the 2007 U.S. Team Trials where she was the runner up as well as being the runner-up at the U.S. World Trials. The Gaffney, S.C. native is currently ranked second in the nation in the 51 Kg weight class and finished second in last years’ Dave Schultz Invitational and third in Canada’s Guelph Open.

McMann is looking to compete in her second straight Olympic Games in the 63 Kg category. McMann is coming off a 2007 PanAm games championship as well as a 2007 U.S. World Team Trials Championship as well as her silver medal performance in Athens in 2004.

Kolat was a member of Team Lock Haven for two years as he came to LHU from Penn State and made an immediate impact. Kolat won a pair of National Championships in 1996 and 1997with his ’96 title coming in the 134 pound weight bracket while his ’97 title was won at the 142 pound class. His record at The Haven was an astounding 50-1 and was 61-5 at PSU for an overall collegiate mark of 111-6. Cary was the 2000 Pan-Am Games Champion and the 2001 World Cup Silver Medalist.

The trio will compete for their respectively places on the U.S. Olympic team for the 2008 games in Beijing with the trials taking place at the Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV).
