LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 6 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (15-3) was clicking on all cylinders today as it rolled past Bloomsburg University (9-9) 25-9 in their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Semifinal contest.
The Lady Eagles were led by sophomore Leigh Titus (Towaco, N.J./Montville) and junior Jessica Blickestaff (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin), who have been fueling the Haven offense all season long.
Titus had a remarkable 13 points, including a team-high eights goals and a team-high five assists.
Blickenstaff recorded five goals and three assists for eight points on the day. Her eighth point of the day was a goal off a free position attempt with just 2:17 left in the game and it was that goal that puts her atop the LHU all-time career points list with 314.
LHU wasted little time in getting started today as they looked poised to defend their turf on what will be the last Lock Haven sporting event ever contested on Charlotte Smith Field as we currently know it.
Amber Hoch (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) scored just 32 seconds into the contest off an assist from Titus and the Lady Eagles rolled from there taking a lopsided 11-1 lead into the break.
Bloomsburg wouldn’t go down with out a fight cutting into the Haven lead early in the second, but the Lady Eagles proved too much and rolled to the win setting up another matchup with conference rival West Chester University.
It will mark the third straight season where LHU and West Chester will meet for the PSAC crown.
Hoch and Caitlyn Watts (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) each finished with four goals on the day.
Watts had an eight-point day, as she also assisted four other Haven tallies. Hoch chipped in with three assist, while also dominating on draw controls for LHU.
Sophomore goalie Kira Nuttall (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) was once again strong in net, making 14 saves.
West Chester, the tournaments No. 1 seed downed East Stroudsburg University 21-4 in the other PSAC semifinal today.
LHU will travel to West Chester on Saturday, May 3 for 1 p.m. PSAC Championship clash.
