Aaron
Russell
enters his
eighth
season as
head coach
of the Lock
Haven
University
men’s and
women’s
cross
country
teams,
coming off
another
widely
successful
campaign in
2007. He
also serves
as the
co-head
coach for
the men’s
and women’s
indoor and
outdoor
track and
field
teams. In
2007 Russell
had three
Academic
all-Americans
on his
roster.
For the 2008
season,
Russell
guided yet
another
squad of
young Bald
Eagle
harriers to
the NCAA
National
Championships after
capturing
their fourth
regional
title in the
last six
years, thus
earning
USTFCCCA
Atlantic
Region Coach
of the Year
honors. The
Bald Eagles
then went on
to finish 19th
at the NCAA
Division 2
Cross
Country
Championships.
The Lady
Eagles of
Lock Haven
also had a
strong year
as Russell
led them to
a seventh
place finish
at the PSAC
Championships
and an
eighth place
finish at
the NCAA
Atlantic
Regional
Championships.
All in all
Russell had
six runners
earn All
PSAC and All
Region
honors this
year,
capping off
a successful
fall for
both the
women’s and
the men’s
squads.
In 2006,
Russell won
his fourth
consecutive
PSAC Coach
of the Year
Award. The
men's squad
won the
Pennsylvania
State
Athletic
Conference (PSAC)
and East
Region
championships.
The Bald
Eagles have
also been
the PSAC
Champions
for the last
four years
in-a-row and
have won
three of the
last four
regional
titles. LHU
finished
11th overall
at the NCAA
Division II
National
Championship.
The Lady
Eagles
finished
sixth at the
PSAC
championship
which was
three-spot
improvement
from the
year before.
Following
their
sixth-place
showing at
the
conference
meet they
went to an
impressive
seventh-place
showing at
the East
Region
championships.
The 2005
season
brought home
the PSAC
men’s title
for the
third-straight
year, adding
a
second-place
finish in
the regional
meet, and a
top-10
finish
nationally.
For his
efforts,
Russell
brought home
his third
PSAC Men’s
Coach of the
Year trophy.
The women’s
team
improved
over last
year’s
performances
with plenty
of freshmen
making an
impact,
finishing
ninth in the
PSAC meet
and 11th at
the regional
championships.
2004 was a
banner year
for the
men's cross
country
squad, as
they took
both the
NCAA
Division II
East Region
and PSAC
titles, as
well as
earned their
top NCAA
finish in
school
history at
ninth.
Russell
guided two
All-Americans
in earning
the PSAC and
USCCCA East
Region Men's
Coach of the
Year
trophies.
In all,
Russell has
coached
three
All-Americans,
16
all-region
and 23 All-PSAC
runners.
His women’s
team has
earned
All-Academic
Team status
in two of
the three
seasons, and
the men
garnered the
same
academic
honors in
2003 and
2005.
