John Wilson, Sr., begins his second year as an assistant coach
after four years as a volunteer assistant
coach for the Lock Haven University men’s basketball team.
A 40-year
veteran of the coaching realm, Wilson Sr. earned induction into the Indiana
Basketball Hall of Fame, the Anderson Black Expo Basketball Hall of Fame,
and the Anderson University Hall of Fame. He spent 20 years as a coach and
Athletics Director at Malcolm X College in Chicago, I., compiling an
impressive 378-135 (.737) record on the court. In 10 years of high school
coaching he recorded an equally remarkable overall mark of 139-59 (.702).
Wilson
Sr. brings an abundance of professional experience, having played for the
Harlem Globetrotters (1949-54) and playing professional baseball with the
Chicago American Giants of the Negro Baseball League in 1949.
He was a two-time All-American and three-time all-state basketball player
for Anderson University, and also earned distinction as Indiana’s “Mr.
Basketball” in 1946 as he helped lead his Anderson High School squad to the
state title with a record 30 points in the championship game.

Sr. holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Anderson University and a
master’s of education from Indiana State University.
