Jocelyn Duke is entering her
third season
as
assistant
coach for
The Haven
under head
coach
Jennifer
Smith. Duke
continues to
assist coach
Smith in all
facets of
the game.
Prior to entering The Haven, Duke took
part in
various
coaching,
teaching,
and personal
training
jobs in her
hometown of
Louisville,
Ky. Such
jobs
included ECE
Assistant
teacher in
the
Behavioral
Disability
classroom of
Thomas
Jefferson
Middle
School, head
and
assistant
coaching
positions
for
basketball
at DuPoint
Manual and
Jeffersontown
High School,
and a
one-on-one
fitness
instruction
at the local
YMCA.
Duke’s most recent place of employment
before Lock
Haven was at
Shawnee High
School.
Duke helped
guide the
Shawnee
students to
academic and
athletic
excellence.
As
instructor
of the
Business Law
on-line and
In-School
Suspension
Programs,
she
monitored
students in
succeeding
in the
on-line
classes and
mentored
others who
displayed
disciplinary
problems.
Athletically,
Duke was
delegated
the title of
head coach
of the
Girl’s
Basketball
team. With
her
comprehension
of the game
and devotion
to the
success of
her
athletes,
Jocelyn was
voted Coach
of the Year
in the 6th
Region.
This
accomplishment
also helped
her earn the
position of
All-Star
Coach of the
Kentucky
Battle of
Bridges
game.
Duke has an Associate’s Degree in
Science from
Wabash
Valley
Community
College (Mt.
Carmel, Illo.).
While
attending
Wabash
Valley
(1997-1999),
Duke put
time on the
hardwood as
a power
forward.
Her hard
work paid
off as she
attended
Austin Peay
State
University (Clarksville,Tenn.)
to finish
her final
two years of
academics
and
athletics.
While at
Austin Peay
(1999-2001),
Duke
graduated
with a
Bachelor’s
Degree of
Science in
Psychology.
Duke proved
her athletic
excellence
as she
grabbed the
Extra Mile
Award,
earned an
Honorable
Mention to
the
Conference
Team, and
finished her
senior year
with highest
total
rebounds in
the
conference
at 253.
During her
reign, APSU
gained a
spot in the
First Round
of the
Division I
NCAA
Championship
Tournament
and was
Champions of
the Ohio
Valley
Conference.
