Zack Smith

Volunteer Assistant Coach

Penn State University

First season

Zach Smith is currently in this first year as the Lock Haven University’s women’s basketball volunteer-assistant coach. Smith graduated in 2008 with a B.A. from Penn State.

At Penn State, Smith was the Basketball Manager from 2005-2008.  There he worked with the coaches and players, on and off the court, to help Penn State become top competitors in the Big 10 conference.

He was responsible for attending daily practices to physically and mentally prepare the team for their opponents.  During home and away games, Smith assisted in various responsibilities with event operations.  Such duties included hosting the visiting teams and helping with tasks on demand to meet the coaches’ and teams’ requests.

Prior to Penn State, Smith attended Hillsborough High School in New Jersey where he was an All-Area basketball player.  Upon graduation, Smith became the Recreation League Director in Hillsborough from 2004-2009.

As director, Smith supervised two basketball leagues of 300+ individual basketball players from 6th to 9th grade.  He organized and implemented schedules for 20 teams in four leagues and coordinated distribution through e-mail, phone and other publications.

Throughout the basketball season, Smith administrated payroll for 15 employees, referees and scorers.  His other responsibilities included distributing uniforms and managing all equipment and sporting supplies.

In 2008, Smith became the D’Em Up Booking Agent and Coach in the Williamsport, Pa.  Currently still employed, Smith organizes the booking of players and locations for the New Jersey and Pennsylvania camps.

Smith is very successful in attaining local business sponsors for the D’Em Up camp shirts and prizes.  He also coaches participants in skill development and manages the every day activities for the camp.  In addition, Smith digitally records events and edits the film for resale to the participants.
