Ninth season
|
|
Kristen
Selvage, already the winningest
coach in LHU history (103-45) is
entering her ninth season as coach,
and is looking to improve on last
season, where the team finished
18-4.
2009
was yet another fantastic season for
the Selvage led Lady Eagles of Lock
Haven. In 2009 the team posted an
18-4 record with a 7-1 record in the
PSAC West. The squad won the PSAC
West Regular Season Championship and
then went on to become the PSAC
Tournament Champions. In more post
season action the Lady Eagles made
an appearance in the NCAA Division 2
Final Four and then earned a trip to
the NCAA Finals. This year Selvage
coached the National Defensive
Player of the Year, four
All-Americans as well as five
All-Region athletes, the PSAC West
Player of the Year, the PSAC West
Rookie of the Year, and six All PSAC
athletes.
The Lady Eagles
finished the 2008 season ranked No.
6 nationally after going 15-4
overall and 12-2 in the PSAC,
advancing to the conference
championship game where they fell to
No. 1 West Chester University, the
2008 NCAA Division II National
Champions. Along with the Haven’s
three All-Americans in ’08, they are
joined by four all-region selections
and five all-conference athletes.
Following the
2008 season, junior midfielder
Jessica Blickenstaff was named IWLCA
NCAA D-II Midfield of the Year for
the second straight year, thanks in
large part tp Selvage's guidance.
In 2007 her Lady Eagles
appeared in the NCAA
Final Four. The squad finished
16-4 and 12-2 in the PSAC. The team
broke numerous records in the 2007
season including most goals in a
game (27) and assists in a game
(20). The 2006 squad also has
several individual honors including
two First Team All-Americans and
three All-PSAC First Team.
In 2004,
she earned her second PSAC Coach of
the Year honor while guiding the
Lady Eagles to their first playoff
berth since 1991. The 2003 Lady
Eagles set a single-season record
with 200 goals on the year.
Selvage
was a standout goalkeeper for the
Lock Haven field hockey team from
1994-97, earning the status of an
All-American and an All-PSAC
selection in her junior and senior
seasons. In 46 games, she posted 255
saves and 20 shutouts. Her career
goals-against-average of 0.90 ranks
in a tie for fifth place among all
Lady Eagle keepers.
Selvage
played on The Haven’s 1994 and 1995
NCAA Division II National
Championship squads, and was also
part of three PSAC post-season
tournament championships from
1994-96. She also experienced
success as a member of the Lady
Eagle lacrosse team, garnering
Second Team All-America and Second
Team All-PSAC honors as an attacker
in 1998.
Following
her graduation from Lock Haven in
1998, Selvage served stints as head
field hockey coach at SUNY New Paltz
and Elmira College. While at Elmira,
she also took on head lacrosse
duties, and prepared both squads for
the move from club to varsity
level.
In 2000,
Selvage moved on to SUNY Geneseo,
where she led the Lady Knights field
hockey squad to a runner-up finish
in the SUNYAC and a berth to the
NYSWCAA playoffs. She guided three
players to all-conference honors and
two to All-NYSWCAA accolades. Under
Selvage, the Lady Knight lacrosse
team also advanced to the SUNYAC
Championship playoffs with three
athletes earning all-state status
and two meriting All-SUNYAC honors.
