Fifth-year
head coach Andy Waeger made an immediate impact in his first season with
the Lady Eagles in 2005-06. With a three-spot improvement from the previous year's
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) finish, Waeger bumped LHU to sixth, tops
among women's-only programs, setting school records 14 times and snapping eight pool
records along the way.
While
hosting the 2009-2010 NCAA Division II Mens and Womens Swimming and Diving
National Championships in Canton, Ohio, Waeger and four of his Lady Eagles brought home 10
All-American Honors. The Lady Eagles also
broke school records in seven out of the eight events they competed in. Waeger led the Lady Eagles to an overall team finish at 16th
place which is the highest finish in school history at the NCAA Championships.
The
Lady Eagles had three swimmers rank in the top-25 nationally in 2005-06. Tatiana Patakyova
was 13th in the 100 free, Isabel Carneiro was 18th in the 200 fly and 23rd in the 100 fly,
and Diane Sujanksy was 25th in the 50 free. Each member of the 2005-06 squad had at least
one lifetime-best swim.
He
also helped produce the team's first All-PSAC swimmer in recent memory when Sujanksy took
third in the 50 freestyle. She was also named DII Swimmer of the Week by
CollegeSwimming.com, for her efforts in the week ending Dec. 11.
The
team earned College Swimming Coaches Association (CSCAA) All-Academic Honors in Fall 2005,
Spring 2006, and Fall 2007 with Patakyova picking up Honorable Mention All-Academic
recognition as an individual.
A
native of Dublin, Ohio, Waeger graduated from Fairmont State College in 2002. He was a
four-year letterwinner and served as team captain during his senior season. Waeger was the
2001 Bluegrass Mountain/WVIAC Champion in the 200 breaststroke and 400 medley relay. He
also was the former record-holder in the 100 breaststroke at the West Virginia State Short
Course Championships.
Waeger
was named graduate assistant coach at Slippery Rock for the 2002-03 season. He elevated to
head coach for the Rock men's and women's swimming programs in 2003-04 and 2004-05. Waeger
added a master of science in sport management from SRU in 2004.
He
is an ASCA Level III Certified coach, and a member of the 2006 Fellows Class. Waeger
resides in Lock Haven.
