Tuesday - Summer Palace sightseeing and another US Field Hockey tie!
Tuesday in Beijing
Tuesday was another sightseeing adventure. No sign of either Brian or anyone else from the previous evening’s experience. We went off to the Summer Palace, a beautiful place designated as a Heritage List site by UNESCO. It covers over 290 hectares [acres sort of] surrounding Kunming Lake and was built by Emperor Quinlong in 1750 to celebrate his mother’s birthday. In 1860 Anglo-French forces burned the Palace to the ground. It was restored in 1886 by Empress Dowager Cixi by diverting navy funds. It was again damaged by Allied Forces of Eight Powers in 1900 and restored in 1902. Photos to follow.
The USA played Japan in field hockey this evening and they tied 1-1. So far, two ties. Off to The Great Wall tomorrow. Sorry there were no adventures of note today…
