Greetings again!

On Thursday, we began with a field hockey match against Germany. Since Germany won the last gold medal in Athens in field hockey, this was going to be a real challenge. The outcome was 4 – 2 for Germany…our first loss. We will be watching for results on television just like the rest of the country very soon.

We tried to get some photos of the “bird’s nest” where the opening ceremony was held and the site of track and field. Right next to it is the swimming arena. It looks like an ice cube. With security as tight as it is, even taking pictures of the venues is difficult.

Rain stopped any other plans for the day. Sharon was able to negotiate a two for the price of one deal on umbrellas from a street vendor who arrived in the nick of time as the rain began to fall. Off to softball tomorrow…and then the zoo.
