(Lock Haven, Pa.) – The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania (0-2, 0-2 PSAC) lacrosse team dropped a 20-15 decision to nationally ranked Bloomsburg University (1-2, 1-0 PSAC). It was a seesaw battle through most of the game with neither team wanting to let other to pull away. It wasn’t until halfway through the second half that the Huskies were able to put on a run, taking a four-goal lead, 15-11. The Lady Eagles battled back scoring three unanswered goals to close within one, but Bloomsburg held on netting three goals in 31 seconds to go up by four, 18-14, before the eventual victory.
Junior Diana Strizki (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) got the Haven on the board early first with one of her team leading six goals from an assist from freshman Jenna Richter (
Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central). Bloomsburg answered right back, but a duo of free position goals by Strizki and Richter gave Lock Haven an early 3-1 lead. Bloomsburg showed why they are No. 3 in the nation answered with three goals of their own for a 4-3 lead. This seesaw battle would continue for the remainder of the half, finishing with a score of 8-8.
The second half started the way the first half ended with both teams scoring back to back through the first 11 minutes. Bloomsburg got the opening they needed when senior Sheila Zilinski scored two quick goals to bring BU to a 13-11 lead. Teammates Danielle Yeager and Georgia Carinci added two more unanswered goals to move the Huskies lead to four. Lock Haven would battle back with Richter netting two unassisted goals and freshman Kim Penuel (

Along with Strizki’s six goals, Richter helped pace the Haven’s offense with five goals and three assists. Freshman Shannon Houck (
Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) finished the game with two goals, while Penuel added one goal and one assist. Freshman Linda Carr (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had 11 saves in front of the goal.
