score
(Lock Haven,
Pa.) – Two big
runs, one in each half, lifted the
No. 3-ranked
West Chester
University
(7-1, 4-0 PSAC)
lacrosse team past Lock Haven (3-4, 2-3 PSAC), 14-11.
Lock Haven got off to a 2-0 lead in a hurry, Mandy
Alderfer (
Harleysville
,
Pa.
/Souderton) and Diana Strizki (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) each pocketing
goals within the first five minutes. Just as quickly,
however, that excitement was erased as West Chester went
on a 12-minute, five-goal run to take over the lead, 5-2,
with 12 minutes remaining in the half.
The teams exchanged goals in the time left to enter
into the break with WCU in the lead, 6-3.
Again opening up strong, the Lady Eagles scored
three unanswered goals to start the second half, including
two by Richter (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central), to knot the score at 6-6 at
the 25:19 mark. Mirroring
the play from the first period,
West Chester
broke open the
game and posted six goals to ease into a 12-6 lead with
14:04
left to play.
The Haven
fought back with three straight scores, then a pass from Jenna
Richter (Long
Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and goal by Diana
Strizki cut the deficit down to just two goals, 12-10,
at 6:58.
West Chester
’s Tara Wagner broke free after gaining the draw control immediately
following and wove through the Haven defense for the quick
goal to bring the tally to 13-10.
With
5:25
remaining,
Strizki scored again off a pass from Jenna
Richter to bring the lead back down to two goals,
13-11. Lock
Haven would not be able to convert over the last five
minutes of the game, however, and the Golden Rams’ Kirstin
McGoldrick added a score at
3:29
to wrap up the
game at 14-11 in favor of
West Chester
.
West Chester
was led by a
seven-point effort by Kirstin
