(Lock Haven, Pa. ) –  A second-half rally by the Lock Haven University women’s lacrosse team fell short as the Lady Eagles dropped a 13-12 match-up against No. 6-ranked Gannon University (4-4) at home this afternoon in non-conference action.  Lock Haven, ranked ninth in the latest IWLCA Division II poll, is now 5-6 overall.
The Gannon Lady Knights opened up the game on fire, putting a seven-goal lead on the scoreboard as they did all the game’s scoring over the opening
11:27 .  Stephanie Wood (Califon, N.J./West Morris Central) broke the ice for the Lady Eagles, getting a rebound past the Gannon keeper at 9:05 and jump-starting a three-goal run by LHU.  Diana Strizki (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) scored twice within a minute to cut the Haven deficit to 7-3. Three more Gannon goals followed, however, including two by Emily Wood,  as the lead grew back to seven.  The teams each scored one more to bring the halftime margin to 11-4 in favor of the visitors.
The Haven would outscore Gannon 8-2 in the second half, though the efforts would come up empty-handed. The half opened up with a goal by Strizki, who would add two more in addition to scores by Wood and Amy Richter (
Long Valley , N.J./West Morris Central) to creep back into contention, 11-9. The Lady Knights matched Lock Haven in scoring over the next five minutes, each team tacking on two goals to their total to bring the score to 13-11 with just under eight minutes remaining.  Lock Haven’s Jenna Richter ( Long Valley , N.J./West Morris Central) worked her way into shooting range and got one past the keeper at 3:42 , moving LHU to within one, 13-12.  Last minute attempts fell short, including a shot with a minute remaining that sailed over the top of the net, as Gannon held on for the slim victory.
Lock Haven’s Diana Strizki led the Lady Eagle effort with five goals and an assist while Amy Richter added four goals.  Stephanie Wood totaled two goals and Jenna Richter also scored one goal.  Christie Dunning (Ivyland/Central Bucks East) posted five saves.
