WEST CHESTER, Pa. – While
the Lock Haven University lacrosse team’s (14-5)
first trip to the NCAA Semifinals didn’t end as
hoped, this year’s squad will go down as one of the
most successful in school history. The Lady Eagles
fell 20-7 against host West Chester University
(17-1) in NCAA Semifinal action today.
The
loss wraps up a 2005 season in which the Lady Eagles
had the most wins in school history (14) and the
highest PSAC finish (second). Head coach
Kristen Selvage
moved into third on the school’s wins list (37) and
senior attack
Diana Strizki (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon
Central) snapped the career marks for goals,
assists and points in a Lady Eagle uniform.
“We’ve known since our seniors were freshmen that
we’ve had the potential,” Selvage said. “We
continued to put that potential on all of our
recruits since and it got us here. This year, we
only graduate three, and have no seniors next
season, so I’m excited for these girls.”
The
Golden Rams opened up with two goals in the first
three minutes. Sophomore
Jenna
Richter (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central)
cut the lead in half off a
pass from freshman
Caitlyn
Watts (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood).
WCU went on a 5-1 run for the remainder of the half,
interrupted by a Watts goal.
The
Lady Eagles busted out of a 7-2 halftime deficit,
posting a 3-1 run with two strikes by Richter and a
Stephanie Wood
(Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central)
goal. The depth of the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference (PSAC) Champions would get to Lock Haven,
as they would run the rest of the game on a 12-2
ledger. LHU was out-shot 45-21.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kimberly Allan
(Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown)
made 16 saves in a whopping 36 attempts, falling to
10-5, while Chelsea Marshall made 13 saves in the
win. Richter and Watts tied for the team lead with
three points apiece in today’s action.
