FAIRMONT, W.Va.
– Defense was the name of the game tonight, as the Lock
Haven University men’s basketball team (1-10) held
Fairmont State College to 58 points, a season low for
LHU opponents, but fell 58-41. Sophomore guard
James
Chappell (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area)
paced the team with 12 points off the bench.
The
Bald Eagles got off to a slow start and never held the
lead in the contest. The Falcons went on a 16-3 run in
the first 5:30, eventually carrying it out to a 36-22
halftime advantage.
Lock Haven out-shot Fairmont State in the second half,
33 (8-of-24) to 29 (6-of-21) percent. Senior guard
Eddie
Christiano (Coal Township, Pa/Lourdes Regional)
cut the deficit to seven on a jumpshot with 9:10 left,
but the Falcons would answer, not allowing the lead to
dip under double-digits for the remainder of the game.
The
LHU point total was the least since a 59-34 loss to
Shippensburg University on Jan. 20, 1999. The Bald
Eagles shot .327 (17-of-52), their lowest field-goal
percentage of the season.
Chappell, Christiano and the rest of the Bald Eagles are
back in action Saturday, Jan. 8 at 3 p.m. when they play
host to East Stroudsburg University. |
