SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.—In
a back-and-forth affair that never held more than a five
point advantage for the final 16 minutes, the Lock Haven
University men’s basketball team (2-15, 0-3 PSAC West) had
a one-point lead with 26 seconds left and lost to Slippery
Rock University 69-68 tonight.
SRU’s
Bill Johnson hit a layup with six seconds left to clip the
Bald Eagles, but it was Glenn Reepmeyer’s 26 points and 11
rebounds that did the most damage.
Senior forward
Joe Walker (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) led
the Bald Eagles with 22 points, the third time this season
that Walker has reached the 20-point plateau, all three in
losing efforts.
Senior guard
Eddie
Christiano (Coal
Township, Pa./Lourdes Regional),
played in his 97th
consecutive game—an LHU record—adding 17 points on five
three-pointers. Christiano surpassed Ken Richter
(1977-81) for the record, a iron-man record that
lasted 24 years.
Reepmeyer pulled down an offensive board with just over a
minute to go and the game tied at 65. Later during that
possession, LHU’s
Michael Dye (Milford,
Pa./Delaware Valley)
would foul Johnson. Johnson hit both free throws, giving
the Rock a 67-65 advantage with 48 seconds left.
Senior forward
Quentin Terry
(York, Pa./Central York) would answer with a layup and
a free throw for a three-point play with 26 seconds
remaining, giving the Bald Eagles a 68-67 lead. Terry
finished with 11 points and seven rebounds in a reserve
role.
Walker would get a steal on the next possession, getting
it to sophomore guard
Durell Moore
(Wallingford,
Pa./Strath Haven)
who was fouled with 12
seconds left in the game. After
Moore
missed the front end of his one-on-one, Reepmeyer hit
Johnson, who drove the baseline for the game-winning layup.
Lock
Haven was unable to get a shot off in the final five
seconds, as the horn sounded finishing the game at 69-68.
Walker, Christiano, Dye, Terry, Moore and the rest of the
Bald Eagles are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 8
p.m. as they host Shippensburg University. |
