LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
A late run helped close
the gap, but potent outside-shooting proved to be too much
as the Lock Haven University men’s basketball team (2-16,
0-3 PSAC West) fell to Shippensburg University (13-5, 3-0
PSAC West), 71-61 tonight at the Thomas Fieldhouse. The
Red Raiders out-shot the Bald Eagles 10 three-point field
goals to five.
On
the night he was honored for snapping the school’s
consecutive-games-played record, senior guard
Eddie
Christiano (Coal
Township, Pa./Lourdes Regional)
posted 21 points, going 5-of-9 from long range. LHU used a
balanced scoring attack to remain close to the Red
Raiders, as Christiano was the only scorer in double
figures, but the Haven had 21 bench points to
Shippensburg’s four.
LHU
out-rebounded Shippensburg 44-36, including a 17-11
offensive board advantage. Senior forward
Joe Walker
(Lock Haven,
Pa./Central Mountain)
led the Haven with eight rebounds to go with seven points
and a game-high eight assists.
The
Bald Eagles jumped out for a good start, holding the lead
for the first nine minutes. Christiano posted six points
during that early stretch. The Red Raiders took the lead
for good with 8:03 left in the first half.
LHU
was able to stay within 10 points for the majority of the
final five minutes, due in part to poor free-throw
shooting by Shippensburg. The Red Raiders were 5-of-13
during that span.
Christiano, Walker and the rest of the Bald Eagles are
back in action Saturday, Jan. 29 at 3 p.m. as they travel
to Edinboro University. |
