LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
Armed with 24 points from senior
Quentin
Terry (York, Pa./Central York) and 21 points from
classmate
Eddie
Christiano (Coal Township, Pa./Lourdes Regional)
the Lock Haven University men’s basketball team (3-19, 1-6
PSAC West) outlasted a late Clarion University (15-7, 5-3
PSAC West) surge to get their first conference victory,
67-66 tonight at Thomas Fieldhouse. The Bald Eagles held
the lead from the 17:02 mark in the first half.
Terry’s 24 points mark
the fifth time the 6-foot-5 forward has reached the
20-point plateau this season, including each one of the
team’s wins. He added a game-high nine rebounds to his
effort.
Senior
Joe
Walker (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain)
chipped in with 10 points and seven caroms.
Lock Haven took a 4-3
advantage at the 17:02 mark on a layup by Terry. While the
lead slimmed to one on many occasions—including the final
buzzer—the Bald Eagles would not relinquish their lead.
Up 61-57 with 30
seconds left, Walker stole the ball, forcing the Golden
Eagles to foul. He would hit both free-throws, giving LHU
a six-point advantage.
Clarion’s Chris
Buchanan would refuse to go out easy, hitting a contested
trey for a 63-60 tally with 19 seconds left. Christiano
was then sent to the charity stripe, where he hit both for
the five-point lead.
Golden Eagle Bobby
Franklin drove the left side uncontested for a layup,
cutting the lead to three. Clarion would then foul
sophomore Jason DeJesus (Hershey,
Pa./Milton Hershey), who would
hit both free-throws to make it 67-62 with nine seconds
left.
It only took five of
those seconds for Franklin to get fouled in a three-point
attempt, hitting the first two before teammate Buchanan
would grab the carom off the third to cut the LHU lead to
one as time ran out.
Terry, Christiano,
Walker, DeJesus and the rest of the Bald Eagles are back
in action Saturday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. as they host
Slippery Rock University. |
