YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio. –
Competing
against the first of two Division I opponents this
season, the Lock Haven men’s basketball team (0-2) had a
halftime lead and led by as many as 10 in the first
half, but Youngstown State University (1-0) caught fire
in the second stanza, overtaking the Bald Eagles by the
70-56 final. Sophomore James Chappell (Coatesville,
Pa./Coatesville Area)
led four LHU scorers in double figures with 14 points
and five assists.
Joining Chappell were
seniors Joe Walker (Lock Haven,
Pa./Central Mountain)
and Eddie
Christiano (Coal
Township, Pa/Lourdes Regional)
with 13 and 12,
respectively. Fellow senior Quentin Terry (York,
Pa./Central York)
was a monster on the
boards, bringing down a career-high 18 rebounds.
The Bald Eagles never
trailed in the first half, stretching the lead to 10 on a
three-point shot by sophomore Julien Grandgirard (Vesoul,
France/Dayton Christian)
with 4:24 to go until intermission. The Penguins would
then go on a roll, trimming the lead to one on a jumper
with two seconds left.
YSU would capture their
first lead with 17:16 left in the game, relinquishing it
just once and stretching it to its height for the final
70-56 tally by scoring six unanswered in the final
1:48.
Turnovers would be the
downfall for LHU, as the Penguins would get a 15-5
points-off-turnovers advantage in the second half alone.
Chappell, Walker,
Christiano, Terry, Grandgirard and the rest of the Bald
Eagles are back in action Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at
the University of
Charleston. |
