WEST
CHESTER, Pa. –
In a tightly-contested affair, the Lock
Haven University
men’s basketball team (1-6) came out on the short end of a
62-55 battle with
West Chester
University (6-2). The Bald Eagles out-shot the Golden
Rams 47 percent (20-43) to 39 percent (23-59) from the
floor.
The Bald
Eagles fell behind at the start, trailing by as many as
six in the early going. A quick surge, including a
three-point play and a long-distance shot on consecutive
possessions, both by
James Chappell
(Coatesville,
Pa./Coatesville Area),
gave the Haven their first lead at the 10:45 mark.
Chappell would finish with 10 points off the bench.
LHU would
regain control with 9:30 left in the first half, keeping
the lead for the rest of the half and stretching it to its
height of five on a shot by senior
Joe Walker (Lock
Haven,
Pa./Central
Mountain)
with 6:45 left. Walker posted a team-high 19 points with
seven rebounds.
The Bald
Eagles held a three-point halftime advantage, continuing
that success in the second half, not relinquishing the
lead for the first nine minutes. The Golden Rams would
then take over, controlling most of the second stanza.
Senior
Quentin Terry
(York,
Pa./Central York)
would hit one of two free throws to tie the game at 55
with 1:48 remaining, but WCU would do the rest of the
scoring, including a three-point dagger by Brandon Long
(his only points of the game) with 19 seconds left, giving
the Golden Rams a five point lead.
The
undersized Bald Eagles were out-rebounded 46-22, including
a 21-1 deficit on the offensive boards.

Walker, Terry and the rest of the Bald Eagles are back in
action Wednesday, Dec. 22 at
