John Wilson, Jr. takes the reigns of the Bald Eagle basketball program for the seventh time this season, and he couldn’t be more optimistic.

Losing five seniors from any team would be difficult, but Wilson has risen to the task, as eight cagesters will don an LHU uniform for the first time this season. The fresh faces are sure to excite on the court, and help LHU men’s hoops rebound from 2004-05’s 4-23 season.

Wilson is no stranger to the PSAC, as he has spent the majority of his coaching career in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, having served as the assistant coach at Millersville University of Pennsylvania for 10 years.

Wilson, the 2003 PSAC Western Division Coach of the Year, has posted an overall 43-116 mark in his six years at the helm of the Bald Eagle program. In 2002-03 he guided the Bald Eagles to a 10-17 overall record and a 6-6 mark in the PSAC, earning a trip to the PSAC playoffs as the fourth seed in the Western Division.

Prior to gaining the position at Lock Haven, Wilson spent one year as the head boy’s varsity coach at William Penn High School (York, Pa.), where he guided the Bearcats to a County Division I championship and state playoff berth.

Wilson began his coaching experience in the PSAC as an assistant coach at Millersville from 1988-96. In 1996, Wilson was elevated to associate head coach at The ‘Ville, where he remained until 1998.

There, Wilson helped guide Marauder teams to the NCAA Division II playoffs in 1993, 1994, and 1995, as well as to the Elite Eight in 1989. During his stint, Millersville won two PSAC post-season titles, four PSAC Eastern Division crowns, and an ECAC Division II tournament championship.
Wilson also spent five years (1980-85) as the men's basketball assistant coach at Malcolm X Community College in Chicago, Ill. under his father, John Sr., whom he added to his staff in 2003.
Wilson holds a bachelor's degree in recreation from Washburn University (1980). John and his wife, Jackie, reside in Lock Haven.  They have four children, Tamara, Tiehrra, John III, Justin, and a grandson Cameron.
