| Highlights: California
University advances to its first-ever PSAC Championship game after
defeating the Bald Eagles, 5-0, on LHU’s McCollum Field in the PSAC
post-season tournament semifinal round this afternoon. Junior Vulcan
midfielder Tomas Boltnar (Erie/Iroquois) scored two goals
and had two assists to lead the offensive onslaught and carve out a piece
of PSAC history for himself in the process. His two assists today give him
19 on the season, enough to capture the conference’s single-season
assists record. Now with 59 points (20g, 19a), he is also on the verge of
breaking the season points mark currently at 63 and held by East
Stroudsburg’s Sean Crawford (1997).
Boltnar scored just 30 seconds into the game to give
California the advantage early on, getting the ball off a throw in and
sneaking it into the bottom right corner of the cage past diving LHU
keeper Jake Lezak (Athens/Athens).
In the 36th minute, the Vulcans were awarded a penalty
kick, and Boltnar struck again for his second score of the contest.
California’s Lou Douglas (Monroeville/Gateway) took a
cross from Boltnar to net the third and final goal of the first half.
The open of the second half went back and forth with
tough play by both keepers, but the momentum slowly swung back to the
Vulcans. California broke down the Haven defense in the 73rd minute,
playing the ball from Boltnar, who forced a two-on-one with LHU’s keeper
Bob Mazzola (Roslyn/Abington), then passed to Nicholas
Addlery (California/Jamaica Coll.) who scored on the open net. Brian
Gmutsa (California/California) closed out Vulcan scoring with an
unassisted goal from the upper right corner of the box in the 79th minute.
California goalkeeper Seth Shaw (Lincoln,
Neb./Northeast) recorded his sixth shutout victory of the season
and tallied nine saves. Lock Haven’s keepers Lezak and Mazzola split
time in goal, with Lezak posting three saves and three goals against while
Mazzola had four saves with just two goals against.

Dizdarevic, who netted his first goal of the contest. He struck again six
minutes later off an assist from Davy. John Schumann
(Warrington/Central Bucks East) added another goal to LHU’s
collection off a pass from Ian Auman (Myerstown/ELCO) to

in the opening minutes. LHU’s Justin Chirico (Rochester,
N.Y./Livonia) netted a score just one minute into the second
stanza with an assist from David Dallas (Wilmington, Del./Concord). SRU’s
Amoroso scored again off an assist from Ludtke, but LHU’s Dizdarevic

Highlights: The
Bald Eagles survived its second overtime game of the season, defeating
Shippensburg University, 2-1, in 111 minutes of action. LHU senior Joe
Kadelski (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) scored the winning goal, finding
the back of the net off an assist from frosh David
Dallas (Wilmington, Del./Concord).
Lock Haven held a dominant advantage in shots on goal,
27-8, but Shippensburg was the first to strike, scoring the first goal of
the game with just over five minutes remaining in the opening half. LHU’s Zlatko
Dizdarevic (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) tied the contest at 1-1
with a goal in the opening minutes of the second half, scoring off a cross
from sophomore midfielder Rob Battisson
(Leicester, England/High Wyland).

Highlights: The
Haven built a sizeable 4-1 lead but had to survive a last minute scare by
the Vulcans before pocketing their first PSAC victory of the season, 4-3.
California struck first with a score by Tomas Boltnar, but The Haven bounced
back with a goal by Richard Melchior (Pittsgrove, N.J./Schalick) two
minutes later, and the teams went into the half knotted at 1-1. Following
the break, LHU got forward quickly, with David Dallas (Wilmington,
Del./Concord) netting a score three minutes into the half. Morten
Brorby (Jevnaker, Norway/Jevnaker) headed a goal off a cross from Rob
Battisson (Leicester, England/High Wyland) , and in the 76th minute,
the Bald Eagles broke away from the Vulcan defense and drew the keeper out
of the box, as Zlatko Dizdarevic (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) fed
junior Jon Davy (Grimsby, England/Hereford Comp) for LHU’s
fourth goal of the contest. A defensive miscue late in the half caused an
own goal by The Haven, and California moved one goal closer when Boltnar
received a pass from Joe Mete while standing 30-feet out in front of the
goal, and drilled it through the LHU defense with just under three minutes
remaining. The Haven held on, however, and came out the victor by the final
4-3 score.

Highlights: The
Bald Eagles recorded a season-high of six goals in a 6-1 victory over the
Flyers of Mercy College in their final game of the Bald Eagle Admiral
Classic. Freshman Zlatko Dizdarevic (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) led
the way with two goals, backed up by scores from Rob Battisson
(Leicester, England/High Wyland), Morten Brorby (Jevnaker, Norway/Jevnaker),
Richard Melchior (Pittsgrove, N.J./Schalick), and Joe Kadelski
(Gilbertsville/Boyertown). Sophomore John Schumann
(Warrington/Central Bucks East) worked for two assists.
Battison put The Haven on the
scoreboard with a converted penalty kick just seven minutes into the first
half. Mercy’s Ivan Marcia then tied the game with a shot from just left of
the box, but on one of a flurry of mid-half attacks on goal, LHU’s John
Schumann crossed to Morten Brorby, who then headed in the ball for the score
and regained the Haven lead. Zlatko Dizdarevic scored twice more in the
half, and midfielder Richard Melchior also found the back of the net before
the half-time break. LHU’s Joe Kadelski added another in the second half
to increase the lead before the final horn.
Keeper Paul Maguire (Great
Falls, Va./St. John’s) spent 78:03 in goal, collecting 6 saves
with one goal against. Back-up keeper Jake Lezak (Athens/Athens) entered
for the remaining minutes of the game, recording one save in goal.

Highlights:
The Bald Eagles recorded their first win of the season and
LHU’s first opening game shutout victory since 1994 (3-0 win over Lycoming
College) with their commanding 4-0 tally over Pitt-Johnstown.
“It was a great performance all-around, and I was extremely pleased,”
said Lock Haven’s fourth-year head coach Rob Eaton.
“It’s very encouraging as well to know that everyone on our 20-man
roster played and contributed.”
Junior midfielder Justin Chirico (Rochester, N.Y./Livonia) scored
the first goal of the 2000 season just under the 22-minute mark off of assists
by senior midfielder Joe Kadelski (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) and
freshman forward Billy Dovas (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown).
Kadelski and Dovas connected again six minutes later, as newcomer
Dovas netted his first score of the year. Before the close of the first half, the Bald Eagles’ Ian
Auman (Myerstown/ELCO) added another goal off a pass from Graham
Boyle (Paisley, Scotland). Freshman
midfielder Jeff Van Etten (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury)
rounded out LHU scoring, taking a cross from Auman to score late in the second
half. ###
