(Lock
Haven, Pa.) -
Two first period goals,
including the game winner by Dustin Bixler
(Mechanicsburg/Redland), were enough for the Lock
Haven men’s soccer team (2-2) to secure a 2-1 victory over
#22-ranked (preseason) Wheeling
Jesuit University, handing the now 2-1 Cardinals their
first loss of the season.
The Haven’s Joe Leap (Long Valley,
N.J./West Morris) was the first to score, converting
on a throw in from Zach Gibbon (Long Valley, N.J./West
Morris Central). The Bald Eagle’s 6’4” defender
Bixler used his height to his advantage on a free kick off
the foot of Ashley Rosindale (Bradford, England/Beckfoot
School), heading the ball into the back of the net to
bring the score to 2-0.
Wheeling Jesuit’s only goal was earned in
the final minute of play when they converted on a penalty
kick.
Lock Haven is on the road for one more
game before the team will be able to play in front of a
home crowd, traveling to LIU-Southampton on Wed., Sept. 8,
at 4 p.m.
